[Germany's Unemployment Rate Falls to 6.3% in May; Officials Say Decline is One-off Effect] ⑴ Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 6.3% in May from a near six-year high of 6.4% in April, slightly better than market expectations. However, the Federal Employment Agency attributed the decline to a one-off effect. ⑵ The number of unemployed decreased by 12,000 to 2.987 million, contrasting with market expectations of an increase of 10,000. The unadjusted number of unemployed fell to 2.95 million, dropping below the 3 million mark, mainly due to a rebound after weak data in April. ⑶ The agency's head stated, "Despite the decline, the spring recovery has not truly gained momentum this year." The unemployment rate is expected to rise in the coming months as companies postpone staffing adjustments in response to geopolitical shocks, including the conflict with Iran.
