Rio Tinto and South 32 set record high premiums of $460-480/ton for aluminum to Japan in Q3. According to informed traders, due to tightening global supply caused by the Middle East conflict, Rio Tinto offered a premium of $460/ton for aluminum to its Japanese customers in the third quarter, while South 32 offered $480/ton. If accepted, this premium would be more than $100 higher than the supply agreements reached between the two countries and the two mining giants in the second quarter.
