[EU Population Reaches Peak and Will Decline in the Future] According to a report released by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, the EU's population will decline in the future, while life expectancy will continue to increase. Currently, the EU population is 450.6 million; it is projected to fall to approximately 445 million by 2050 and further to 398.8 million by 2100, an overall decrease of about 11.7%, equivalent to the level of the 1970s. The report also points out: "Europeans' average life expectancy has reached a record high: the average life expectancy at birth in 2024 has reached 81.5 years. It is projected that by 2050, one in three EU residents will be over 65 years old, compared to only one in five currently. By 2100, the average life expectancy for women is expected to exceed 90 years, and for men, it is expected to exceed 86 years. Babies born in the EU in 2023 are expected to remain free of serious illnesses at slightly over 75 years old."
