[US Industrial Production Flat in August, Below Expectations] ⑴ US industrial production was flat in August, compared with a 0.2% increase in July, below the market expectation of a 0.3% increase. ⑵ Manufacturing output, which accounts for about 78% of total industrial output, fell 0.3%, ending seven consecutive months of growth. ⑶ Mining activity rose slightly by 0.1%, while utility output increased by 1.8%. The utility growth was mainly driven by strong electricity production, which outpaced the decline in natural gas utilities. ⑷ Capacity utilization was 76.3%, unchanged, still 3.1 percentage points below the long-term average from 1972 to 2025.
