Statistics from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) show that in the week ending September 15, market speculators reduced their net short positions in Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) 2-year U.S. Treasury futures by 73,754 contracts, bringing the current net short position to 855,353 contracts. Such changes in positioning are generally considered by the market as one of the indicators reflecting the expected direction of short-term U.S. Treasuries, and to some extent, can reflect speculative funds' judgment on the subsequent price trend of short-term U.S. Treasuries.
