According to statistics released by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), in the week ending September 15, market speculators reduced their net short positions in U.S. 10-year Treasury futures traded on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) by 13,547 contracts, bringing the current net short position to 821,236 contracts. This type of positioning data is an important indicator of speculative sentiment in the bond market. A decrease in net short positions often reflects a reduction in short-term speculative forces bearish on 10-year U.S. Treasuries, and is usually related to factors such as adjustments in market expectations regarding U.S. Treasury yield trends and changes in risk aversion.
