According to statistics released by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), in the week ending September 15, speculative traders on the COMEX gold market reduced their net long positions by 2,488 contracts, bringing the total open interest down to 137,060 contracts. This type of position data is typically considered by market participants as one of the indicators of short-term speculative sentiment in gold. The decline in net long positions reflects, to some extent, a cooling of speculative expectations for short-term gold price increases during the week.
