Citigroup and Bank of America have become the latest U.S. banks to restrict AI agents from accessing customer accounts. Several banks have expressed concerns to regulators that AI agents might transfer idle funds from customer accounts in pursuit of higher returns, leading to deposit outflows. Citigroup stated that it prohibits "third-party AI agents or assistants from logging into customer accounts or initiating transactions directly within our digital banking platform," adding that this measure is to protect the security of customer accounts and information.
