[China-Switzerland Bilateral Trade Reaches $89 Billion in First Nine Months, Up 127% Year-on-Year] A relevant official from the Ministry of Commerce stated that the signing of the upgraded protocol to the China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will help unleash greater cooperation potential in bilateral trade and investment, bringing more innovation opportunities and development dividends to enterprises and people of both countries. The official explained that the China-Switzerland FTA has played a promoting and exemplary role in deepening China-EU economic and trade cooperation. Data shows that in the past five years, the average annual bilateral trade volume between China and Switzerland has exceeded $50 billion. From January to September this year, bilateral trade reached $89 billion, a year-on-year increase of 127%. Chen Chao, Director-General of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, stated that the current global economic growth faces many unstable factors, with unilateralism and trade protectionism on the rise. The signing of the upgraded FTA protocol between China and Switzerland fully demonstrates both sides' clear attitude of choosing certainty and supporting free trade. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership and is also the first year of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. The two countries face very broad opportunities for innovation cooperation, and the upgrade of the FTA is timely. Following the signing of the upgrade protocol, China and Switzerland will each complete their respective domestic procedures to promote the early entry into force and implementation of the protocol.
