[National Bureau of Statistics: Service Sector Business Activity Index at the Critical Point] On October 31, 2026, the Service Sector Survey Center of the National Bureau of Statistics and the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing released the China Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI). Huo Lihui, Chief Statistician of the Service Sector Survey Center of the National Bureau of Statistics, provided an interpretation. The service sector business activity index is at the critical point. The service sector business activity index was 50.0%, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a slight decline in service sector activity. From an industry perspective, the business activity indices of major service sectors all rebounded. Among them, the business activity indices of railway transportation, accommodation, and culture, sports, and entertainment, which are related to travel consumption during the National Day holiday, rebounded significantly and remained in the expansion range, indicating increased market activity. The business activity indices of water transportation, postal services, and internet software and information technology services were all above 55.0%, indicating a relatively high level of prosperity, with related enterprises experiencing rapid growth in business volume. Only the financial industry saw a significant decline in its business activity index, which is the main reason for the slight decline in service sector activity this month. The service sector business activity expectation index was 55.2%, continuing to be in a relatively high level of prosperity, indicating that most enterprises remain confident in the development of the service sector market.
