[Qatar and Iran Hold Talks to Push for US-Iran Agreement] According to US sources on October 30, Qatari mediators held over 12 hours of talks with Iranian officials in Tehran, the Iranian capital. The talks aimed to push for an agreement between the US and Iran to avoid renewed conflict after the US midterm elections. The talks are scheduled to continue in Doha, Qatar, on October 31. A source reportedly stated that positive progress was made. During the talks, Qatar maintained contact with the White House. Qatar is urging the US and Iran to agree on a series of reciprocal measures and implement them in the coming days, thereby returning all parties to direct negotiations on issues such as Iran's nuclear program. The report also stated that Qatar is working to persuade Iran to allow UN inspectors access to the previously bombed nuclear facility. This would be a "confidence-building" move, and the US might respond by easing some sanctions. A US official stated that the conflicting demands of the US and Iran are currently hindering negotiations.
