He Lifeng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony, presented awards to the winning cities, and delivered a speech. Prior to the opening ceremony, He Lifeng met with UN-Habitat Executive Director John Rosbach. He Lifeng stated that China is willing to expand strategic cooperation with UN-Habitat, practice the global governance concept of consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, and help countries in the Global South achieve sustainable urban development.
