[UN Staff Member Dies While Detained by Houthi Rebels; Guterres Calls for Thorough Investigation] On October 31, local time, UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a statement through his spokesperson, expressing deep shock and condemnation of the death of UN staff member Mohammed Shami while detained by Houthi rebels. Guterres called for an immediate, impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation into his death. In the statement, Guterres extended his condolences to the deceased's family and his colleagues at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The statement noted that this is yet another UN staff member to die while detained by Houthi rebels, following the death of a World Food Programme staff member in February 2025. All UN personnel and humanitarian workers still arbitrarily detained face serious risks. (CCTV News)
