[Trump: If Democrats Win Congress, I Will Be "Mr. Veto" Until a Deal Is Reached] (1) US President Donald Trump said he would veto documents if the Democrats win the congressional elections until lawmakers agree to a deal. In an interview with the New York Post, discussing the Democrats' strategy after a victory, he said, "I will be Mr. Veto." (2) He added that US presidents have previously worked with opposition-controlled Congress, explaining, "They (the Senate or the House) send something, you veto it, and eventually a month or two later, they (the lawmakers) come, and you reach a deal." (3) The congressional elections will be held on November 3, where the American people will decide the composition of the House of Representatives and the allocation of 35 Senate seats. Since 1946, the ruling party has only won additional seats in two midterm elections, in 1998 and 2002; the Democrats suffered a historic defeat in 2010, losing 63 seats in the House and 6 in the Senate.
