[Brookfield appoints KB Kookmin Bank to lead $8 billion syndicated loan to finance NAVER's AI chip purchase] (1) Global investment firm Brookfield has appointed KB Kookmin Bank as the lead arranger for the largest syndicated loan in South Korean history, aimed at providing funding for South Korean tech giant NAVER to purchase artificial intelligence chips. (2) KB Kookmin Bank said in a statement on Sunday that the loan is 10.7 trillion won (about $8 billion) and is part of a total financing package of 12.6 trillion won; the funds will be used to purchase artificial intelligence computing infrastructure, including graphics processing units (GPUs). The bank noted that this is South Korea's first large-scale GPU financing deal, and the related artificial intelligence chips will be provided to NAVER Cloud on a long-term lease basis. (3) Banks and private credit funds in Asia are expanding their artificial intelligence financing business, extending beyond data center construction to include hardware such as chips that provide computing power.
