[Japan completes fifth climate transition bond issuance this year, amounting to 250 billion yen] (1) Japan has completed its fifth climate transition bond issuance this year; despite Japan’s increased reliance on fossil fuels since the outbreak of the conflict, it remains the only government currently issuing bonds under the category of climate transition bonds. (2) The issuance amounted to 250 billion yen (approximately US$1.6 billion), with stable demand and a bid-to-cover ratio of 3.84 times, lower than 4.62 times in May, but higher than the average of 3.79 times since the issuance began in February 2024; the highest yield on the winning bid was 2.2%. (3) This issuance is the 11th such issuance by the Japanese government and is part of a 150 trillion yen plan that will continue until 2033, aimed at channeling funds to specific emissions reduction projects.
