[Middle East peace talks expectations drag down oil prices; US energy stocks weaken in pre-market trading] ⑴ Iranian and Qatari officials negotiated a ceasefire agreement, with the market betting on an easing of the risk of Middle East oil supply disruptions, causing international oil prices to fall rapidly; Brent crude fell 3.7% to $107.9 per barrel, and WTI crude fell 3.9% to $99.2 per barrel. ⑵ Investment bank analysts pointed out that this round of oil price declines has a certain oversold component. The US has not directly participated in the conflict, and only when the US approves a peace plan will the geopolitical risks be fully priced in by the market. ⑶ Shares of major oil and gas leaders also came under pressure, with ExxonMobil falling 1.2% and Chevron falling 1.0%; small and medium-sized oil and gas producers saw even larger declines, generally ranging from 1.4% to 2.1%. ⑷ Oilfield service companies followed the market lower, with Halliburton and Sleuth falling 1.0% and 0.8% respectively; refining companies also generally closed lower, with Valero Energy falling 1.7%, and the entire sector weakening.
