[US Dollar Index Rises Along with Oil Prices; Geopolitical News Disrupts Market] ⑴ Rising US Treasury yields coupled with a rebound in oil prices pushed the US dollar index higher, after a sharp drop in oil prices in the previous trading day. ⑵ News reports indicate that the US launched strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, and US allies in the Gulf region are preparing contingency plans for the potential risks of a further US military action against Iran. ⑶ Brent crude rose 1.3% to $106.12 per barrel, after previously hitting a three-week low of $103.11 per barrel. ⑷ As a net exporter of crude oil, the US's stronger oil prices indirectly supported the US dollar. ⑸ The US dollar index rose 0.12% to 101.842, after earlier touching a one-month low of 101.411; however, with the election approaching on Tuesday, market sentiment was cautious, limiting gains.
