[Italy's Composite PMI Falls to 50.8 in October, a Five-Month Low] ⑴ In October 2026, the S&P Global Italy Composite PMI fell slightly to 50.8 from 51.0 in September, marking its lowest level since May, indicating that private sector activity was still expanding, but at a moderate pace. ⑵ This slight slowdown was mainly due to a faster contraction in manufacturing output, offsetting stronger growth in the service sector. ⑶ New business continued to grow modestly, with the service sector remaining the only source of expansion. Employment also rose slightly, broadly in line with historical averages. ⑷ Meanwhile, cost pressures rose to their strongest level in four years, with both manufacturing and services pushing up costs. Output-based inflation also accelerated to its highest level since early 2023.
