[UK Composite PMI Rises to 52.9 in October; Business Activity Grows Fastest in Eight Months] ⑴ In October 2026, the S&P Global UK Composite PMI rose to 52.9 from 52 in September, slightly below the initial reading of 53.1, but still the highest level since February. ⑵ Stronger manufacturing activity supported overall growth, while the service sector also performed well, with output growth at its fastest pace since September 2024. ⑶ New business grew at its fastest pace in nine months, supported by a recovery in export sales. ⑷ Private sector employment increased for the first time in 25 months, mainly driven by a recovery in hiring in the service sector. ⑸ However, inflationary pressures intensified, with input costs rising at their fastest pace since June. Both manufacturing and service sector companies reported accelerating input price increases, attributing them to rising fuel and transportation costs.
