[Israeli President Receives Election Results, Coalition Consultations Continue Thursday] ⑴ According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli President Herzog received the official election results from the chairman of the Central Election Commission on Wednesday and will subsequently begin consultations with representatives of various political parties. ⑵ By law, the president must consult with all parties in parliament before deciding who will be tasked with forming a government. ⑶ Herzog is expected to award the mandate to form a government to the candidate who receives the most support from party representatives. ⑷ Consultations will continue on Thursday and into the evening. ⑸ Election results show that Netanyahu's camp remains in the lead with 53 seats, the opposition camp with 48 seats, and Arab parties with 19 seats. ⑹ The current political deadlock could ultimately lead to another election, although it is still possible for the parties to reach an agreement through negotiations to form a ruling coalition to avoid another election.
