[Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines Joint Venture Reduces Winter Capacity to Pass on Fuel Costs] ⑴ SunExpress, the joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, is reducing its flight capacity this winter and passing on some of the additional costs to passengers to mitigate the impact of rising aviation fuel prices driven by the Middle East conflict. ⑵ SunExpress CEO Schnabel said on Wednesday that the company will cut approximately 10% of its flight capacity during the off-season, reducing the total number of seats from 5 million to 4.5 million. ⑶ This reduction will be achieved by decreasing daily flight frequency and canceling some domestic flights within Turkey. ⑷ Schnabel stated that even after hedging operations, SunExpress's fuel expenses will still increase by approximately €200 million (about $225 million) this year, and are expected to rise further next year. ⑸ Schnabel joined SunExpress in February this year, having worked at Lufthansa for over 20 years. He succeeded Konatsky, the current head of Eurowings.
