[European Commission Announces 2027 Work Plan] The European Commission announced its 2027 work plan on the 4th, proposing measures to enhance the economic competitiveness of EU member states, strengthen defense and security, improve social welfare, address climate change, and expand international cooperation through deepening the single market, reducing energy costs, and reducing administrative burdens. The plan outlines coordinated action to address high energy prices, eliminate barriers to the single market, establish a European key raw materials company, improve the savings and investment union scheme, propose a blueprint for artificial intelligence applications, and promote its application in healthcare, transportation, agriculture and food, manufacturing, defense, and aerospace; continue to expand defense investment, advance cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry, strengthen external border security, and modernize the Schengen visa system; propose a European water initiative and a European heatwave response plan; deepen strategic cooperation with partners such as Canada, continue to support Ukraine; and cooperate with the Eurogroup and the European Central Bank to strengthen the international role of the euro and promote legislative negotiations related to a digital euro.
