[WHO: Cholera Has Killed About 1,800 People in the Democratic Republic of Congo This Year] The World Health Organization (WHO) said on April 4 that cholera has killed about 1,800 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) this year. There are concerns that the outbreak may spread further and reach the capital, Kinshasa. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the DRC is experiencing its "worst cholera outbreak in decades," with about 60,000 cases recorded so far. Most cases are in the eastern provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu, but "worryingly, cases have also appeared in the Congo River basin, which means the outbreak could spread to the capital, Kinshasa."
