[German Factory Orders Rise 4.4% in September] German factory orders rose 4.4% month-on-month in September 2026, rebounding from a revised 10.1% decline in the previous month, but falling short of market expectations of a 4.8% increase. This is the fastest growth since March, mainly driven by a 10.5% surge in car orders, following two months of weak orders, partly due to production switching and factory shutdowns. Orders for machinery and equipment also rose 8.3%. In contrast, orders for aircraft, ships, trains, and military vehicles fell 10.4%, following strong demand earlier this year. By category, capital goods orders rose 5.3%, intermediate goods rose 0.5%, and consumer goods rose 14.4%. Domestic orders rose 6.6%, while overseas demand rose 2.8%, with the eurozone market rising 4.5% and non-eurozone markets rising 1.6%. Excluding large contracts, orders rose 5.1%. Based on the less volatile three-month period, factory orders in the third quarter rose slightly by 0.2% compared to the previous quarter, and by 0.1% excluding large orders.
