The fallout from Anthropic's earlier release of legal services tools, which triggered a sharp decline in software stocks, continued on Thursday as the company unveiled a new version of its most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) model, primarily designed for financial research. Named Claude Opus 4.6, this version can examine corporate data, regulatory filings, and market information to generate detailed financial analysis reports—tasks that previously required days of manual processing. Opus 4.6 also enhances a range of other office functions, including spreadsheet and presentation creation, and software development. Following the announcement, financial services company stocks immediately fell, with FactSet Research Systems dropping as much as 10%, and S&P Global, Moody's, and Nasdaq stocks also declining significantly.
