[India Passenger Vehicle Sales Up 8% in January 2026] ⑴ Data from the Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association (IAMA) shows that total passenger vehicle sales in India reached 379,394 units in January 2026, an increase of 8% year-on-year. ⑵ The previous month saw a 29% year-on-year increase. ⑶ This data excludes sales from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo. ⑷ Continued demand following the reduction in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate supported sales growth. ⑸ The Director General of the IMA stated that initiatives in the 2026 federal budget to strengthen India's manufacturing base, along with existing policy benefits, are expected to bring long-term benefits to the industry and support medium-term growth. ⑹ On a monthly basis, passenger vehicle sales declined by 15.6% in January. ⑺ The figure for December was a 1.6% month-on-month decline.
