[US Inflation Expected to Slow Slightly to 2.5% in January 2026] ⑴ The US annual inflation rate is expected to slow to 2.5% in January 2026. ⑵ This would be the lowest level since May, down from 2.7% for the previous two months. ⑶ The slowdown mainly reflects the base effect, with higher readings from a year ago being removed from the annual calculation. ⑷ On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is expected to rise by 0.3%, the same as the December increase. ⑸ Food and electricity prices are expected to rise, while gasoline prices are likely to fall. ⑹ There are signs that core commodity prices may stabilize, and businesses may use the start of the new fiscal year to implement tariff-related price adjustments. ⑺ The annual core inflation rate is expected to slow to 2.5%. ⑻ This would be the lowest reading since March 2021, compared to 2.6% in the previous month. ⑼ On a monthly basis, the core CPI is expected to rise by 0.3%. ⑽ This growth rate is slightly higher than the 0.2% increase in December.
