[ECB Liquidity: Overnight Deposits €2.41 Trillion, Loans Only €1 Million] ⑴ Daily liquidity data released by the European Central Bank (ECB) on Friday showed that financial institutions used only €1 million in the central bank's overnight lending facility, while deposits in the overnight deposit facility reached a staggering €2.410328 trillion. ⑵ Compared to the previous trading day, overnight loans rose from 0 to €1 million, while deposits increased by approximately €20 billion from €2.390334 trillion. Meanwhile, current account holdings decreased from €218.51 billion to €191.449 billion. ⑶ In terms of fund flows, liquidity in the banking system remains extremely abundant, with institutions preferring to deposit surplus funds with the central bank to earn interest rather than lend or extend credit. ⑷ This structure reflects the continued low risk appetite of financial institutions against the backdrop of an uncertain economic outlook in the Eurozone, who are willing to accept lower returns on deposit facilities to ensure the safety of their principal. (5) The market needs to pay attention to the ECB's subsequent policy path. If the expectation of interest rate cuts is further strengthened, it will be important to see whether the current deposit scale can be eased and transformed into credit for the real economy.
