The U.S. Department of Commerce has preliminarily approved an application from a mining company to impose a preliminary anti-dumping duty of nearly 133% on palladium imports from Russia. The final ruling is expected later this year. Sibani Stewart Ltd., which operates the Stewart palladium mine in Montana, had previously filed an application with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission requesting trade remedy measures, alleging that Russian palladium was being sold below fair value in the U.S. market. The Johannesburg-based company stated that the preliminary ruling to impose a 132.83% tariff on unwrought Russian palladium still requires final review and confirmation by the two government agencies, with the process expected to be completed in June.
