Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for the week ending February 10 showed that speculators increased their short positions in the US dollar to their highest level since June, with leveraged funds increasing their bets on the dollar to their highest level since June 2025, currently holding approximately $19.9 billion in short positions, up from $17.4 billion the previous week. Short dollar positions briefly exceeded $20 billion in late June last year. Meanwhile, these funds reduced their short positions in the yen for the fourth consecutive week, following a landslide victory for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's ruling Liberal Democratic Party in the election, which led to a strong rebound in the yen. They also increased their long positions in the euro for the third consecutive week.
