Sichuan University has attached great importance to the reports concerning its faculty member Wang Zhuqing and has established a special task force to conduct a comprehensive investigation. The investigation involved interviews with faculty and students, in-depth review by experts, and audits of project funding. The investigation revealed that Wang Zhuqing engaged in research misconduct, including falsifying and altering experimental research data, publishing duplicate papers, and improper authorship. Of the 28 papers reported, 6 had issues, including 4 with falsified or altered image data (1 of which also had issues with duplicate image publication and improper authorship), and 2 with duplicate image data publication. In addition, among her unreported papers, 1 had duplicate image publication and 1 had improper authorship. Of these problematic papers, 2 were journal articles and 6 were conference papers. Wang Zhuqing also failed to complete the necessary procurement procedures for academic conference services and failed to return surplus conference funds to the university. In light of issues such as misappropriating 10,000 yuan in research funds, inappropriate communication methods with graduate students, and significant conflicts with some students, the university has decided, in accordance with the "Regulations on Disciplinary Actions for Staff Members of Public Institutions" and relevant university regulations, to demote Wang Zhuqing (from specially appointed researcher to specially appointed associate researcher), suspend her graduate student recruitment qualification, disqualify her from applying for government-funded science and technology projects for 5 years, and report the research papers and projects related to her research misconduct to relevant departments. The university will also respect the students' wishes by adjusting the advisors for those supervised by Wang Zhuqing and provide them with care and support. The university will hold relevant responsible units and individuals accountable, and will further strengthen fund management, comprehensively enhance research integrity education and professional ethics among faculty members to maintain a clean and upright educational environment.
