[Supply Concerns and Tariff Uncertainty Coexist, Aluminum Prices Rise Slightly] Aluminum prices rose in Asian trading. The three-month aluminum contract rose 0.1% to $3,079.50 per tonne. ANZ research analysts wrote in a report that US President Trump is considering narrowing the scope of US metal import tariffs due to concerns that these tariffs are harming consumers. However, the analysts added that there are some doubts about this potential tariff reduction, as US Finance Secretary Scott Bessenter downplayed any possibility of tariffs being removed. The analysts stated that, simultaneously, supply concerns could provide support for aluminum prices after miner South32 disclosed plans to shut down its smelter in Mozambique.
