[Survey Shows 60% of Economists Expect Indonesian Central Bank to Hold Rates Steady This Week] A Wall Street Journal survey of seven economists showed that six expect the Indonesian central bank to keep its benchmark seven-day reverse repo rate unchanged at 4.75% on Thursday, while only one economist expects a 25 basis point cut. HSBC economists noted in a report that although the combination of growth and inflation still supports a rate cut, and the central bank believes there is room for further easing, a series of recent negative news has dampened investor sentiment: MSCI's downgrade warning, Moody's negative outlook, and FTSE Russell's delayed assessment have led to a roughly 1% depreciation of the Indonesian rupiah and a 9 basis point rise in bond yields over the past two weeks. Against this backdrop, HSBC expects the Indonesian central bank to choose to maintain its current interest rate.
