[US Officials Say Over 1,000 Immigration Enforcement Officers Have Withdrawn from Minnesota's Twin Cities Area] It was learned on February 15th local time that Tom Homan, the US government's border affairs director, stated that over 1,000 immigration enforcement officers have withdrawn from the Twin Cities area (Minneapolis and St. Paul), with hundreds more expected to leave in the coming days. Homan also stated that a "small" security force will remain temporarily to protect the remaining immigration enforcement personnel. Since early December of last year, US federal law enforcement officers, authorized by the Department of Homeland Security, have been conducting large-scale immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota, with deployments reaching as high as 3,000 personnel. In January of this year, federal law enforcement officers shot and killed two US citizens during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, escalating tensions and intensifying conflicts between the federal and local governments.
