The U.S. Department of Defense is nearing the termination of its partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic, which may also be added to its supply chain risk list, due to dissatisfaction with restrictions on the use of its technology. This comes after months of intense negotiations between the two sides regarding the U.S. military's use of Claude-related tools, bringing the partnership to the brink of collapse. Anthropic has emphasized that its AI technology will not be used for large-scale public surveillance or in the development of weapons systems that can be deployed without human intervention. The U.S. government, however, wants Claude to be applicable to "all legitimate scenarios." A senior Pentagon official stated that once Anthropic is designated as a supply chain risk entity, all companies planning to do business with the Department of Defense must sever ties with it.
