[Strong Demand at South African Bond Auction: Three Long-Term Bonds Oversubscribed by More Than 4 Times] ⑴ The South African government successfully auctioned three long-term bonds worth 3 billion rand (approximately US$187 million) on Tuesday, with strong market demand. Data shows that the issuance size of bonds maturing in 2038, 2044, and 2053 was 1 billion rand each. ⑵ In terms of yield, the liquidation yield of the 2038 bond was 8.280%, the 2044 bond yield was 8.620%, and the 2053 bond yield was 8.520%. Long-term yields generally remained above 8%, indicating some investment value. ⑶ Regarding the bid-to-cover ratio, all three bonds were oversubscribed. The 2044 bond had the highest bid-to-cover ratio at 5.5 times; the 2038 and 2053 bonds had bid-to-cover ratios of 4.6 times and 4.1 times, respectively. Strong demand indicates that investors have a strong willingness to allocate to South African long-term government bonds at current yield levels.
