[Commercial Bank: Risk of Short-Term Surge in European Gas Prices Remains] (1) Carsten Fritsch, a commodities analyst at Commerzbank, pointed out that the European gas market remains tight, with inventories not yet at seasonal lows. If temperatures drop again, gas prices could surge rapidly in the short term. (2) European benchmark Dutch TTF natural gas futures fell 1% to €30.61 per megawatt-hour, dragged down by warmer-than-expected weather forecasts and a sharp drop in Henry Hub gas prices. (3) Fritsch stated that EU gas inventories are significantly lower than historical levels for the same period, but ample liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply is sufficient to avoid a substantial supply disruption for the remainder of winter. However, the inventory reduction process will continue for several weeks, and the market remains highly sensitive to a resurgence of the cold snap and price fluctuations.
