[Canada's Inflation Rate Slows to 2.3% as Gasoline Prices Fall] Canada's overall inflation rate slowed to 2.3% in January, below economists' expectations of 2.4%, as gasoline prices fell year-over-year. Statistics Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, released Tuesday, showed a slight decline in the year-over-year CPI from 2.4% in December. The CPI was flat month-over-month, while economists had expected a 0.1% increase. The slower annual inflation rate was attributed to the base effect of gasoline prices, which rose 0.5% month-over-month in January, compared to a 4% increase in the same period last year. Gasoline prices fell 16.7% year-over-year.
