According to a report Tesla filed with U.S. regulators, its self-driving taxis reported 14 collisions within eight months of commencing operations in Austin, covering property damage, minor injuries, and hospitalizations. Tesla did not disclose the current size of its self-driving taxi fleet in Austin, but plans to expand the service to approximately seven other cities by mid-year. The first accident occurred last July, at which time the company reported only property damage. A supplemental report was filed in December, adding information that minor injuries and hospitalizations occurred. Another accident in July also resulted in minor injuries. Tesla's latest report shows that five new accidents were reported in January, occurring in December of last year and January of this year. One of these accidents in January involved a stationary self-driving taxi colliding with an Austin city bus, and two others involved self-driving taxis hitting objects while reversing in parking lots.
