[Sanae Takaichi's Cabinet Resigns En masse] On the morning of February 18th local time, the Japanese government held a cabinet meeting, and Sanae Takaichi's cabinet resigned en masse. The House of Representatives and the House of Councillors of the Japanese Diet will hold prime ministerial elections that day. The Japanese Constitution stipulates that a special session of the Diet must be convened within 30 days of the House of Representatives election to elect a new prime minister. With the current cabinet resigning en masse on the day this special session of the Diet convenes, the newly elected members of the House of Representatives and the existing House of Councillors will vote separately to elect a new prime minister, and a new cabinet will be formed accordingly.
