[US Tariffs Fail to Hinder South African Auto Exports to Record High] A report released on the 17th by the South African Automotive Business Council shows that despite the impact of US tariffs on the South African automotive industry, South African car exports still achieved growth in 2025, reaching a record high. The South African Automotive Business Council stated in its latest quarterly review of the automotive manufacturing business that South Africa exported a record 414,300 vehicles to 109 countries and regions worldwide in 2025, a 5.9% increase compared to 2024. The report shows that due to the US tariffs, South Africa's car exports to North America fell to 6,530 vehicles in 2025 from 25,600 in 2024. During the same period, due to a decline in car exports to Japan, South Africa's total car exports to Asia fell to 19,800 vehicles from 29,300 in 2024. In addition, South Africa's car exports to Europe increased from 295,800 vehicles in 2024 to 332,700 vehicles, accounting for 80.3% of South Africa's total car exports in 2025. (Xinhua)
