[Mount Semeru Erupts, Ash Column Reaches 800 Meters] According to the Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geology Mitigation, Mount Semeru, located in East Java province, erupted at 6:57 AM local time on February 18th, sending an ash column over 800 meters high for 117 seconds. Earlier this month, Mount Semeru erupted seven times within three hours, with ash columns reaching heights of 300 to 800 meters. The Indonesian Center for Volcanology and Geology Mitigation issued a series of recommendations, including advising the public to avoid any activities in the area southeast of the summit, within 13 kilometers.
