On February 18, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified in a landmark trial on social media security, during which he admitted that a significant number of users misrepresented their age when registering for Instagram. The U.S. judge threatened to charge anyone using AI glasses to record videos with contempt of court. Experts described the Los Angeles trial as a “big tobacco” moment for the social media industry (referring to the industry facing devastating regulatory and legal challenges similar to those faced by tobacco giants in the past). This came after Instagram head Adam Moselli testified last week that he did not believe “social media addiction” was equivalent to “clinical addiction.”
