[Slowing US Economic Growth and Stubborn Inflation Seen as Signs of a Soft Landing] Daniela Hathorn of Capita.com writes that the latest US growth and inflation data align with the "soft landing narrative." Fourth-quarter GDP grew by only 1.4%, well below average expectations, while the December Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) remained above the target level as expected. Hathorn says, "This supports the view that the Fed can remain patient rather than aggressively shift." "The country's economy appears to be slowing in an orderly manner, but slightly stronger inflation data may dampen expectations of a rapid rate cut in the near term." According to CME Group, the futures market widely expects the Fed to keep interest rates unchanged at its next two meetings.
