According to CCTV International News, on February 20, the USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest aircraft carrier in the United States, and an escort destroyer appeared near Gibraltar. Reports indicate that the USS Ford has passed through the Strait of Gibraltar and entered the Mediterranean Sea. This comes after the White House ordered the deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. The USS Ford and its escort ships were dispatched from the Caribbean to the Middle East to join the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group in the Persian Gulf. The last time the United States deployed two aircraft carriers to the Middle East was in April of last year.
