[Japan's Flu Outbreak Remains High, 70% of Regions Reach "Alert" Level] Data released by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on February 20th showed that in the week ending February 15th, designated medical institutions nationwide reported nearly 160,000 flu cases, remaining at a high level for several consecutive weeks. Of the 47 prefectures nationwide, 35 have reached the "alert" level for flu outbreaks. Latest data shows that from February 9th to 15th, more than 3,000 designated medical institutions across Japan reported approximately 157,700 flu cases, an average of 41.44 cases per institution. Due to the spread of the flu, as of February 15th, a total of 8,174 daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary and middle schools across Japan have suspended classes at all levels or for some grades/classes.
