[US Proposes 10% Global Tariff, Threatening Thailand's Electronics and Automotive Industries] The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) recently stated that after the US Supreme Court limited its power to impose "reciprocal tariffs," the Trump administration invoked Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to propose a 10% "global tariff" on all imported goods. This policy is expected to severely impact Thailand's electronics exports, including hard disk drives, printed circuit boards, and integrated circuits, as Thailand is a major manufacturing base for these products. The automotive and auto parts industry, especially the tire industry, will also face a heavy blow, as the new 10% tariff, combined with existing anti-dumping duties, will significantly increase costs. Furthermore, exports of household appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators, as well as gemstones and jewelry, will also be significantly affected. However, Thai agricultural products such as rice, durian, and mangosteen, as well as fishery products, will be exempt from the tariff.
