[Fire at Polish Social Welfare Home Leaves 1 Dead, 9 Injured] On February 21, local time, a fire broke out at a social welfare home in Szczawno, Lubuska Province, Poland, resulting in one death and nine injuries. According to the fire department, the fire started in a room on the second floor, and thick smoke filled the entire building. Firefighters evacuated 97 residents. One person is suspected to have died from inhaling toxic fumes. Fourteen fire brigades participated in the rescue operation. Police and fire experts are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
