[Australia's Intergenerational Report: AI-Driven Growth for the Next 40 Years, Long-Term Labor Productivity Expected at 1.2%] (1) The global economy may become more fragmented and uncertain. Over the next 40 years, Australia will rely on the implementation and development of artificial intelligence to drive economic growth. (2) The Australian Treasury released its "2026 Intergenerational Report" on Monday, stating that the rise and application of AI may help achieve a long-term labor productivity growth expectation of 1.2%, a figure similar to that of the 2023 report. (3) Treasurer Jim Chalmers, speaking at the Australian National University and announcing the report, said that Australia's advantages in the 2010s—commodity demand, education, and tourism—will be transformed into new advantages in renewable energy, key minerals, a sound institutional system, strategic partnerships, and AI-enabled services. (4) After the speech, when asked about the productivity growth expectation set by the Treasury, Chalmers said that the productivity indicator also has upward potential, and therefore believes that 1.2% is a fairly appropriate balance point.
